One Day With You is a song and video I created that explores different aspects of the human spirit. Like most of my tracks it started out as a fun and simple sketch, but it evolved into something I felt could communicate a great deal of emotion through video.
I sampled several tracks from old CD’s and records, and wove things together in Ableton Live 9. The track took roughly a week to produce and master.
For the video, I wanted to capture concepts of self image, self doubt, struggle and success. I listened through the track several times, listing images that came to my head in each section. I then began ripping a few handfuls of DVD’s that I knew had the sort of images and expressions I was after.
Just over a week later, I was more or less finished with the video edit. I created everything in Adobe Premiere CC and spent a great deal of time afterwards swapping shots around and matching images to moments in the music.
On reflection, I’m very happy with the video. I think it’s some of the most rewarding work I’ve done. The track is a tad repetitive and borders on Ambient a bit much for my liking today. If I was to go back in time, I’d find ways to create vocal sections, sharpen the drums up and master things a bit further.
The films featured in the final video edit are A Little Princess, Empire Of The Sun, The Color Purple, Billy Elliot, The Party, Fiddler On The Roof, Rocky, Marathon Man and The King & I.
